The History of the Pleasantdale Château
Pleasantdale Château began as the private residence of industrial magnate Charles Walter Nichols, who lived on the estate from 1912 until his passing in 1959. Its story stretches back much further, though. Portions of the Château and the surrounding farmland date to 1835, a time when Andrew Jackson was president and the Civil War was still three decades away. Over the years, Nichols purchased and combined numerous adjoining Dutch New Jersey farms, ultimately shaping the forty acres of gardens, woodlands, meadows, ponds, and architecture that define the Château today.
