Choosing a date is the first step to planning your wedding.  The date you choose will dictate the rest of your planning process.  Before you pick a date you should ask yourself the following questions.

Do I Want A Particular Ceremony Location?

Where you want to get married is one of the key factors in choosing a date.  If there is a certain place where you want to have your ceremony, you should contact the wedding coordinator at that location to check availability.  Once you set a date for the ceremony location, you can go ahead and plan the rest of your wedding.

Do I Want A Particular Reception Location?

If you have your heart set on a particular place for your reception, plan your wedding around this availability.  If you have dreamed of being married at a garden or on a pier, you had better give them a call! Venues like this are generally more popular during certain times of the year and due to limited availability tend to book quickly.

Will I Be Able to Get Time Off?

In choosing a date and/or time, you have to consider your work schedule.  If either you or your fiancé is in school, you will want to schedule the wedding around the school schedule as well.  You want to be able to take time off for your honeymoon as well as the wedding.  You should check with your employers’ vacation policies before planning anything.

Should I Consider Holidays and Seasons?

Weddings around the holidays add a special atmosphere to your affair.  However, keep in mind that guests may have trouble attending your wedding due to prior family obligations.  Travel tends to be more costly around holidays.  Also, during the winter months, travel may be more difficult.

Holidays that offer a three-day weekend provide the money saving option of having your wedding on a Sunday.  Having your wedding during a holiday can also give you the opportunity to bring your family and friends together.

Which Day of the Week Do I Want to Be Married On?

The most popular day for weddings is Saturday.  In planning a Saturday wedding you should start early.  Many ceremony and reception locations book very quickly for Saturday weddings.  Saturdays are popular not only because it’s easier for out-of-town visitors, but they also give you a day to relax afterwards.

If you want to save money on your wedding, you should try to stay away from a Saturday wedding.  Saturday weddings have a tendency to cost more than those on Friday or Sunday nights due to the high demand.  You might find that vendors offer discounted prices for Friday and Sunday versus a Saturday.
