Jay Z the Wedding DJ

I came across this pretty interesting article today and I had to paste it here.  It appears to be original BUT since I did not interview Jay Z personally, well I guess you have to take it for what it is.  It looks like the Wedding Entertainment world is going to have another celebrity entering the industry, you guessed it, Jay Z.

—– Jay-Z is planning to become a DJ and intends to charge double the amount of what top professionals in the field receive when they perform in marriages and other events. The rapper said he would soon buy a system to meet his requirement for becoming a DJ.

“I’ve got a whole plan. I’m gonna get me a little Serato set, some DJ software. I’m gonna work on that for six months, then I’m gonna find out which DJ makes the most and charge double and tour, do bar mitzvahs, weddings,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.  He added: “I’m gonna have video behind me and dancers. I’m gonna have people just go out and pour champagne when I get to a certain song. I’m going to make a whole show of this thing.”

The rapper who is married to singer Beyonce suggested that he would charge heavily once he excelled in the trade.  He added: “If you want to book me, book me early, because the prices will be a little better because when I get good, I’m really going to go for it.”  Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, also plans to take up a different name to go with it.  He said: “I’m definitely going to go by a different name. I want people to hear it and be like, DJ Wow!’. It’s got to look good in lights.” —-

I have always enjoyed Jay Z’s hits, I mean he has a hip hop catalog that is second to no other urban artist. The only thing I have to say is that performing at a wedding is much more then spending 6 months learning how to mix on software like Rane’s Serato, it takes years of actually performing at hundreds of events to master.  Being a expert wedding entertainment professional is something few people in Wedding DJ world actually achieve as most are good as some things but truly never master all aspects as the landscape is always in motion and there are numerous things to always learn.

Although I can see some wealthy clients looking to have Jay Z or DJ Wow to host their weddings, I can easily see him overshadowing the bride and groom as he is a celebrity and a role model to the younger generation.

Anyway, thought it was an interesting read for the wedding world.
